TEST ON THURSDAY

SECTIONS 101 and 102 will test on THURSDAY

The test on World Religions will be moved up to Thursday, January 17 for sections 101 and 102, due to the possibility of a weather-related school closure on Friday.

The Honors Section is still scheduled to take their test on Friday, but if school is cancelled, they will test on Tuesday, January 22.

classwork

SECTION 102

Write a paragraph on each of the religions we have been studying. You may use the textbook handouts that we have been highlighting, my PowerPoint, and your own notes as resources. Here is an example of a good, solid paragraph:

Christianity was founded after Jesus’ death.  Historians’ accounts vary, but he was probably born around 7 to 2 BC, and died around 30 - 36 AD.  After his death, his followers (particularly Saul/Paul) spread the word about his teachings. Christianity is monotheistic (one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).  Their holy book is the New Testament (Bible). There are approximately 2.2 billion adherents (followers). Most are from Europe, the Americas, and southern Africa. The central figures of this religion are Jesus Christ (historically) and the Pope (currently).

If you do that for all five religions (please don't just copy mine), that should get you ready for the last test of the semester this Friday.

Using the CIA World Factbook, rank the five religions we have been studying by the percentage of the world’s population that follow them. Then, see if those statistics are consistent with what you find on adherents.com.

You can also receive 10 points extra credit for showing me that you attended the Pow Wow. Do this by taking a selfie at the Pow Wow (near the drums, at a vendor, with Mr. Scholl, or somewhere else that proves you were there). It starts at 10am, but I recommend you be there at 1pm for the Grand Entry.  Email me your photo by midnight Sunday night, January 13, in order to get your 10 points.
